Students, with .edu email addresses, LUCKY YOU! A .edu email is your key to many exclusive discounts and extended trials online, as well as free apps and services for students. This is a list of the 5 best free apps and services I used during my years at the university.
Microsoft Office 365
Microsoft offers free Office 365 for students including licenses for their desktop and mobile apps. All the premium online Office features are available such as online collaborations and automatic design ideas for your PowerPoint presentations. These features allow you to work on group projects much more efficiently.
Enter your .edu email at the Office 365 website to check your eligibility.
1TB on OneDrive
If you can activate Office 365, chances are your .edu email has an Outlook inbox and OneDrive storage. But not your typical OneDrive, this Office 365 version has 1TB of storage for all your files and projects.
Previews for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF files are available with quick options for printing and sharing.
eSurvey Creator
When you need to perform a survey as part of your assignment or research, you might need a little more control than what Google Forms offers. Features like answer scoring, email distribution, and limiting each participant to one entry may come in handy.
eSurvey Creator offers students all these features and more of their premium paid accounts for free.
JetBrains Products
If you’re an engineering or computer science major, you’re gonna need some programming tools, and a bunch more to make that task easier. You probably also heard of Android Studio, but you might not know it’s based on JetBrains IntelliJ Idea, one of the many developer tools offered by JetBrains for several programming languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, PHP and more.
All JetBrains IDEs have excellent coding and debugging features, but only a select few Community Editions are free. But with a .edu email, you can get access to all JetBrains products for free from the JetBrains store.
Github Student Developer Pack
For even more developer tools, Github compiles its list of free apps and services for students. These range from IDEs and code editors to free credit with several cloud computing providers as well as free online courses and learning opportunities. Check them all out at the GitHub Student Developer Pack.
